Tailgate Cable is a retaining cable for the drop-down rear tailgate on pick-up bodies.
It links the rear body panel to the tailgate and limits how far the tailgate swings down, holding it level in the horizontal load position and taking the weight of the tailgate along with anything resting on it. The cable also protects the hinges from overloading when the tailgate is lowered.
