Description:
Layshaft for the Series Land Rover gearbox.
The layshaft (countershaft) runs parallel to the mainshaft inside the gearbox casing. It is driven continuously by the input shaft and carries a fixed gear cluster that meshes with the sliding gears on the mainshaft to provide the available speed ratios. This layshaft applies to gearboxes up to and including suffix A.
