Exhaust Manifold Gasket seals the joint between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head within the exhaust system.

It forms a gas-tight seal across the manifold-to-head mating face, containing combustion gases and preventing exhaust leakage at the port flange. Specific to the VM 2.4L and 2.5L turbo diesel engine.

Frequently asked questions

What does the exhaust manifold gasket do on a Range Rover Classic VM diesel?
The exhaust manifold gasket seals the joint between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head on the Range Rover Classic 2.4L and 2.5L VM turbo diesel. It contains combustion gases at the port flange and stops exhaust leaking where the manifold meets the head.
How many exhaust manifold gaskets are needed for a replacement?
You typically need one exhaust manifold gasket per manifold-to-head joint. It's a single-use seal, so fit a fresh one whenever the manifold is removed, even if the old gasket looks intact. Reusing it usually leads to a blow at the flange.
What are the signs the exhaust manifold gasket needs replacing?
A failed exhaust manifold gasket usually shows as a ticking or hissing from the engine bay that's loudest on cold start, often with a smell of exhaust fumes. On the VM turbo diesel a leak here can also soften turbo response, since gas escapes before the turbine.
