Distributor Bush for the ignition distributor of the 3.5L V8 carburettor engine (Stromberg twin-carb).

The bush is seated in the distributor body and carries the rotating distributor shaft, holding it in concentric alignment so the rotor arm and cam operate with the correct clearance. A worn bush allows shaft play, which disturbs ignition timing and dwell and can accelerate wear of the cap and rotor.

This component is also supplied within a distributor overhaul kit.

Frequently asked questions

What does the distributor bush do on the V8?
The distributor bush carries the rotating distributor shaft inside the distributor body, holding it in concentric alignment so the rotor and cam keep their correct clearance. It's fitted to the 3.5L V8 twin carb (Stromberg) ignition distributor on the Land Rover Defender. A worn bush lets the shaft wander, upsetting ignition timing and dwell.
How many distributor bushes do I need?
Typically one distributor bush is needed per distributor on the V8. It's a single bush that carries the shaft, usually renewed whenever the distributor is stripped for overhaul. This bush is also supplied within a distributor overhaul kit, so check whether you need the standalone bush or the complete kit.
Is fitting the distributor bush a DIY job?
Fitting the distributor bush usually means removing the distributor and pressing the old bush out of the body, then pressing the new one in. It's typically a workshop job because the bush must sit square to keep the shaft concentric. On the 3.5L V8 the distributor sits at the front of the engine.
