Contact Breaker Set for the Lucas distributor fitted to the 3.5-litre V8 petrol engine. It is the mechanical switch in the ignition primary circuit, opening and closing against the distributor cam to collapse the coil field and generate the spark.

This is the fixed-type set: a locating pin on the underside of the contact plate engages the distributor advance and retard base plate, holding the points in position against the cam. The gap set at the contacts determines dwell angle and therefore the accuracy of ignition timing.

Contact faces pit and erode in normal service, leading to misfire, hard starting and drifting timing. Renewing the set together with the condenser restores consistent dwell and a reliable spark.
