Alternator Pulley for the 2.5L 300TDi turbo diesel, part of the alternator drive in the engine's charging system.

The pulley mounts on the alternator shaft and is turned by the poly-V (multi-rib) auxiliary drive belt, transferring crankshaft rotation to the alternator to generate charge. This is the 61mm poly-V type.

The companion drive components are the auxiliary belt and tensioner; a worn or contaminated pulley groove can cause belt slip and reduced charging output.

Frequently asked questions

What is the STC1796 alternator pulley and what does it do?
The STC1796 is the alternator pulley for the 2.5L 300TDi turbo diesel. It mounts on the alternator shaft and is turned by the poly-V auxiliary drive belt, transferring crankshaft rotation to the alternator so it generates charge. This is the 61mm poly-V (multi-rib) type.
Why does the pulley size matter on the 300TDi alternator?
The pulley size matters because it sets the alternator's drive ratio and must match your belt and bracket setup. This is the 61mm poly-V type for the 300TDi. Measure your existing pulley before ordering, as fitting the wrong diameter can affect charging output and belt alignment.
What happens when the alternator pulley wears out?
A worn or contaminated alternator pulley groove typically causes the poly-V belt to slip, leading to belt squeal, reduced charging output and a flat battery. The companion drive parts are the auxiliary belt and tensioner, usually worth checking at the same time. Replace the pulley if the groove is glazed or damaged.
Which 300TDi models does this pulley fit?
This 61mm alternator pulley fits the Land Rover Defender (from VIN MA969102), Discovery 1 (from VIN MA081992) and Range Rover Classic (from VIN JA610294), all with the 2.5L TDi/300TDi engine. Confirm your VIN, as earlier engines use a different pulley.
