Differential Output Shaft Oil Seal - lip seal in the final drive unit, sealing the differential housing at the point where the output shaft passes through to the driveshaft.

The sealing lip runs on the machined surface of the output shaft, retaining the differential oil inside the housing while keeping road water and grit out. A hardened, split or displaced seal shows as oil weeping around the inboard driveshaft joint and a gradually falling differential oil level.

The seal is renewed with the driveshaft disconnected. Inspect the shaft sealing surface for scoring or a wear groove before fitting the new seal, and refill the differential to the correct level afterwards.
