Crownwheel and Pinion Set - 3.54:1 final drive ratio (13-tooth pinion, 46-tooth crownwheel), for the two-pinion differential used in the Land Rover type axle. Suitable for front or rear differential use.
The pinion takes drive from the propshaft at the drive flange and turns it through 90 degrees into the crownwheel, which is bolted to the differential carrier and drives the differential gear set and the halfshafts. This version has a female M12 threaded pinion and accepts a 24-spline drive flange.

The crownwheel and pinion are lapped together as a matched pair at manufacture and must be supplied and fitted together - neither gear may be replaced individually, and gears from different sets must never be mixed. Fitting requires the pinion bearing preload and the crownwheel backlash to be set with shims, and the tooth contact pattern to be checked, before the differential is returned to service.
