Frequently asked questions

What is a soft shackle used for?
A soft shackle connects recovery straps, ropes and winch lines to a recovery point, doing the same job as a steel bow shackle in lightweight synthetic rope. This one is 11mm thick and 550mm long with a 19 tonne rated load. If it lets go it stores far less energy than steel.
Why choose a soft shackle over a steel bow shackle?
A soft shackle weighs a fraction of a steel bow shackle and won't rust or chip paint, which is why many recovery kits now use them. At 19 tonnes rated it's stronger than most steel shackles too. The longer 550mm length helps it loop through tight recovery points.
How do I use the soft shackle safely?
Pass the loop through both anchor points and seat the knot fully before loading it. Keep it clear of sharp edges, since synthetic rope cuts more easily than steel. Inspect the 11mm rope for cuts, fraying or heat glazing before each use and retire it if the cover is damaged.
