Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor measures exhaust gas temperature at the front of the diesel particulate filter, in the upstream section of the after-treatment system.

It feeds a temperature signal to the engine ECU, which uses it to control diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration and to protect the DPF and catalyst from overheating. Fitted to V6 and V8 diesel engines equipped with a DPF.

Frequently asked questions

What does the WDN500130 front DPF temperature sensor do?
The WDN500130 front exhaust gas temperature sensor measures gas temperature upstream of the diesel particulate filter in the after-treatment system. It feeds the reading to the engine ECU, which controls DPF regeneration and protects the DPF and catalyst from overheating. This is an aftermarket sensor for V6 and V8 diesel engines.
How does the front sensor differ from the rear DPF sensor?
The front sensor sits upstream of the diesel particulate filter, reading gas temperature as it enters, while a separate rear sensor monitors the temperature leaving the catalyst. The ECU compares both to manage regeneration. Ordering the front when you need the rear, or the reverse, is a common mix-up, so check the position.
Which models and engines does this front EGT sensor fit?
This front EGT sensor fits the Discovery 3 and Discovery 4 (2.7L V6 diesel), Range Rover L322 and L405 (4.4L V8 diesel), and Range Rover Sport L320 and L494 (3.6L and 4.4L V8 diesel), all DPF-equipped. VIN ranges differ by model, so confirm with your VIN.
What are the symptoms of a failing front DPF sensor?
A failing front DPF temperature sensor typically logs emissions or DPF fault codes, lights the engine warning lamp, and can interrupt regeneration or trigger limp mode. Out-of-range readings usually lead the ECU to flag the after-treatment circuit. Exact symptoms vary with the fault and engine.
