Dim-Dip Control Unit governs the dim-dip headlamp function within the exterior lighting circuit.

The dim-dip system runs the headlamps at a reduced intensity when the sidelights are selected with the ignition switched on, instead of permitting the vehicle to be driven on sidelights alone. Working in conjunction with a series ballast resistor, the control unit switches the headlamp feed to the reduced-power dim-dip level and manages the transition to full dipped beam.

It is fitted to vehicles built to the UK dim-dip lighting specification.

Frequently asked questions

What does the dim-dip control unit do?
The dim-dip control unit runs the headlamps at reduced intensity when the sidelights are selected with the ignition on, instead of letting the vehicle be driven on sidelights alone. Working with a series ballast resistor, it switches the headlamp feed to the dim-dip level and manages the change to full dipped beam.
Which vehicles use the dim-dip control unit?
The dim-dip control unit is fitted to UK-market GB Defenders built to the dim-dip headlamp specification, from VIN HA705857. It's a Lucas unit. Vehicles outside the UK dim-dip specification don't use it, so confirm your Defender was built with dim-dip lighting.
How do I confirm my Defender needs this control unit?
Check whether your Defender was built to the UK dim-dip lighting specification, from VIN HA705857. The dim-dip system dims the headlamps when the sidelights are on with the ignition live. If your Defender doesn't have dim-dip lighting, it won't use this control unit.
