Frequently asked questions

What is the track rod clamp used for?
The track rod clamp pinches the split end of the steering track rod sleeve closed, locking the track rod end in place once toe alignment is set. It is part of the steering system on Land Rover Defender, Discovery 1 and 2, and Range Rover Classic and P38 models.
How many track rod clamps are needed?
Typically the clamps are used in pairs at each adjustable sleeve, so a full track rod or drag link reset often needs two or four. Most workshops renew the clamps whenever the rod ends are disturbed rather than reusing clamps that have already been torqued down.
What is the difference between the small and large track rod clamp?
This is the small track rod clamp, sized for the smaller of the two steering sleeve diameters. Land Rover steering rods use both sizes, so check which your rod requires before ordering. Its cross-reference is STC3108. On the Discovery 2 this clamp fits up to VIN 1A719662.
