Front ABS wheel speed sensor, part of the four-wheel anti-lock braking system's sensing circuit. Catalogued under a sensor kit part number; the assembly is the speed sensor with its integral lead and connector.

The sensor mounts at the front wheel station and reads the toothed exciter ring rotating with the hub, supplying the wheel speed signal the ABS control module uses to detect impending wheel lock and modulate brake pressure at that wheel.

One sensor is fitted at each front wheel. The sensor tip and its seat should be cleaned of corrosion and debris before a new unit is fitted.

Frequently asked questions

What is the ABS wheel speed sensor kit for?
The ABS wheel speed sensor kit measures wheel rotation for the 4-wheel anti-lock braking system on the Defender. It feeds wheel speed data to the ABS controller so the system can prevent wheel lock.
Which Defender does this fit?
This ABS sensor kit fits the Defender 1987 to 2006 with 4-wheel ABS. Not every Defender of this era had ABS, so confirm your vehicle is ABS-equipped before ordering.
How many sensors does the kit cover?
This is supplied as a kit. There is typically one sensor per wheel on the Defender, so check how many your repair needs before ordering.
What are the symptoms of a failed ABS sensor?
A failed ABS sensor lights the ABS warning and can disable anti-lock braking on the Defender. Corrosion at the sensor tip is a common cause. Replace it if the ABS light stays on.
