Heater Matrix for the Range Rover P38 heating system.

Located within the heater housing behind the dashboard, the heater matrix is a small radiator core through which engine coolant circulates. The blower motor draws air across the matrix fins and delivers heated air to the cabin via the distribution vents. The companion O-ring seal (STC3262) should be renewed at the same time to prevent coolant leaks at the matrix connections.

Frequently asked questions

What is the STC3261 heater matrix?
The STC3261 heater matrix is the heat exchanger for the cabin heating system on the Range Rover P38 (1994-2001). Engine coolant circulates through its core while the blower motor draws air across the fins, delivering warm air to the cabin through the distribution vents.
Where is the heater matrix located on the P38?
The heater matrix sits inside the heater housing behind the dashboard on the Range Rover P38. It's connected to the engine cooling circuit, so replacing it typically involves draining coolant and dismantling part of the heater box under the dash.
Should I replace anything else when fitting the heater matrix?
Renew the heater O-ring seal (STC3262) at the same time to prevent coolant leaks at the matrix connections on the Range Rover P38. Since the heater box has to be opened to reach the matrix, fitting a fresh seal now avoids going back in later.
How do I confirm this heater matrix fits my P38?
This heater matrix is listed for the Range Rover P38 (1994-2001). SAP records it against the 2.5-litre six-cylinder diesel, so if you have a petrol V8 P38, confirm the matrix matches your heater box before ordering. Checking your VIN is the safest route.
