Crown Wheel & Pinion Set - the final-drive gear pair housed within the axle differential. The pinion takes drive from the propshaft and turns the crown wheel through 90°, passing torque to the differential and out to the halfshafts.
This is the 13 x 46 tooth set, giving a 3.54:1 final-drive ratio, in the 2-pin differential configuration.
The crown wheel and pinion are manufactured and lapped as a matched pair and must be fitted together, with pinion depth, preload and backlash set on installation to establish the correct gear mesh.
