View full detailsThis category brings together the tools a Land Rover owner or workshop needs to service, repair and recover these vehicles. It spans the specialist tools designed for particular jobs, such as timing tools, hub nut spanners and propshaft tools, the everyday lifting and wheel-changing equipment, the diagnostic scanners used to read and clear fault codes, and the recovery gear that off-road use demands. Budget Parts is a Land Rover and Range Rover parts specialist, and the tool range is selected to match real jobs on these vehicles rather than a generic catalogue, from Series and classic Defender work through to the later Discovery and Range Rover platforms. Stock is held in the Netherlands and dispatched across the EU.
Specialist tools are designed for a specific Land Rover job where a general tool will not do it safely or accurately. This covers engine timing tools, hub nut spanners, propshaft tools, bush and bearing tools, oil cans and the general hand tools used throughout a service. Many are engine or platform specific, so the timing tool for a 300Tdi differs from the one for a Td5 or TDV6. Where a job sets a torque or sequence, the workshop manual or the Land Rover parts catalogues give the figures to work to.
Jacks and lifting equipment cover hydraulic and bottle jacks, lifting jacks and axle stands. Land Rover and Range Rover models are heavy, with high ground clearance and, on air-suspension vehicles, a raised ride height, so jack rating and reach both matter. Always support the vehicle on axle stands before working underneath, and never rely on a jack alone. Match the jack capacity to the vehicle weight with a margin, and use the manufacturer jacking points to avoid damaging the chassis or sills.
Wheel tools cover wheel braces, wheel wrenches, alloy wheel sockets, wheel nut cover removal tools and locking wheel nut keys. These also appear in Wheel Nuts & Locks, so a shopper changing or securing a wheel finds both the fixings and the tools that fit them in one place. Locking wheel nut keys are coded, so match the key code to your locking set before ordering.
Diagnostic tools cover scanners, code readers and interface units used to read and clear fault codes and, on the more capable units, access Land Rover specific modules. Land Rover and Range Rover models from 2001 onwards are EOBD compliant, so a generic interface reads basic powertrain codes, while manufacturer functions through IDS or SDD need a Land Rover approved VCI unit. The physical leads and cables that connect a scanner to the vehicle are listed separately under Electrical & Diagnostic Cables.
Recovery and off-road equipment covers snatch blocks, high-lift jacks, jerrycans, tyre repair kits and winch accessories. These items are listed here for the workshop, and also sit in Land Rover Accessories where their main home is, so off-road owners find them alongside the rest of the kit. Rate recovery gear to the vehicle weight and inspect straps, shackles and blocks before every use.
Workshop consumables cover the smaller sundries used during a service, such as thread locking and sealing products and applicator items. Vehicle cleaning and hand care products have their own home in Workshop Cleaning Supplies, and service fluids and filters sit under Service & Maintenance.
Tools are stocked in three grades. Genuine tools are Land Rover branded and matched to the factory tool specification. OEM tools are made by the same manufacturers that supply the trade and are functionally equivalent at a lower cost. Aftermarket tools are quality equivalents that suit most general workshop and home use. For everyday hand tools, jacks and wheel tools, a good aftermarket or OEM tool is usually all that is needed. For precision jobs where a tool sets engine timing or engages a torque-critical fitting, match the tool to the correct specification for your engine or axle rather than choosing on price alone.
Most jacks, wheel tools, recovery gear and general hand tools work across the whole Land Rover range. Specialist tools are different. Timing tools are matched to the engine, hub nut spanners to the axle and hub nut size, and propshaft and bearing tools to the platform. Diagnostic compatibility depends on the vehicle build date and the diagnostic system, with EOBD reading available on models from 2001 onward and Land Rover specific access needing the correct VCI. Confirm the tool against your model, build date and the specific component it works on before ordering. The Land Rover parts catalogues show the assemblies and fastener sizes that determine which tool you need.
This collection covers Land Rover and Range Rover workshop tools and equipment: specialist tools such as timing tools, hub nut spanners and propshaft tools, general hand tools, jacks and lifting equipment, wheel tools, diagnostic scanners and code readers, recovery and off-road gear, and workshop consumables. The diagnostic leads and cables that connect a scanner to the vehicle are listed separately under Electrical and Diagnostic Cables. Wheel bearing kits and hub assemblies are parts rather than tools and sit under Suspension and Steering.
For everyday hand tools, jacks, wheel braces and recovery gear, a good OEM or aftermarket tool is usually all that is needed and costs less than the Genuine equivalent. The case for a Genuine or correctly specified tool is strongest on precision jobs, where a tool sets engine timing or engages a torque-critical fitting and using the wrong tool risks damage or an inaccurate result. Match those tools to the correct specification for your engine or axle rather than choosing on price.
Land Rover and Range Rover models built from 2001 onward are EOBD compliant, so a generic EOBD scanner or interface reads and clears basic powertrain fault codes on these vehicles. To access Land Rover specific systems through IDS or SDD software, for module programming or for manufacturer fault data, you need a Land Rover approved VCI unit. Decide by the depth of access you need: a generic reader for basic codes, or a VCI for full manufacturer functions. The diagnostic leads and cables are listed under Electrical and Diagnostic Cables.
Many tools, including jacks, wheel braces and recovery gear, work across the whole range. Specialist tools do not. Timing tools are matched to the engine, hub nut spanners to the axle and hub nut size, and propshaft and bearing tools to the platform. Confirm the tool against your model, build date and the specific component it works on before ordering, as the correct tool changed across Series, Defender, Discovery and Range Rover generations.
The scanners, interface units and code readers are on this page. The physical leads and cables that connect a scan tool to the vehicle EOBD port are listed in the Electrical and Diagnostic Cables collection, alongside battery cables and transducer leads. If you are buying a scanner and the lead together, check that the cable connector matches your interface unit before ordering.
