Aftermarket Part
Aftermarket: Quality alternative. This is a quality alternative, designed to fit and function like the original part, often at a more competitive price.

Frequently asked questions

What does the drive plate do on a Td5 automatic?
The drive plate, or flexplate, bolts to the rear of the crankshaft and couples the Td5 engine to the ZF automatic transmission's torque converter. It carries the starter ring gear on its outer edge and takes the place of the flywheel used on manual cars. Its flexible design absorbs the converter's small axial movement under load.
Which vehicle does the FTC4713 drive plate fit?
The FTC4713 fits the Discovery 2 (1998-2004) with the 2.5L Td5 five-cylinder turbo diesel and ZF automatic transmission. It's specific to automatic cars, since manual Td5 applications use a flywheel and clutch instead of a drive plate and torque converter.
What are the signs a drive plate needs replacing?
A failing drive plate typically shows up as a cracked plate or worn starter ring gear teeth, which can cause a grinding or non-engaging starter. Because it links the engine to the torque converter, cracks can also produce a rattle or vibration from the bell housing area.
Are new fixings needed when fitting the drive plate?
Fitting a drive plate usually means renewing the crankshaft bolts that secure it, since they clamp the plate under high load. The matching Td5 automatic bolt is sold separately as FTC4738. The job calls for removing the gearbox and torque converter, so it's typically a specialist task.
