Frequently asked questions

What is the wheel hub assembly (576844) and what does it do?
The wheel hub assembly bolts the road wheel and brake drum to the axle. It mounts on the stub axle and houses the wheel bearings, giving the rotating flange the wheel fixes to. On Series 2 and 3 and Defender it serves both front and rear hub positions, and comes with the wheel studs already fitted.
Does the hub come with wheel bearings and an oil seal?
No. The wheel hub assembly is supplied without wheel bearings or an oil seal, which are fitted separately during assembly. It does come with the wheel studs already pressed in. You'll need the correct bearings and hub seal for your axle when rebuilding the hub.
How many wheel hubs are needed for a repair?
One wheel hub assembly covers a single hub position, and Land Rovers typically run four in total, one per corner. Hubs are usually replaced individually as bearing wear or stud damage dictates. This is the large-stud version, so confirm your axle uses the matching wheel nut before ordering.
Why does a wheel hub fail on a Land Rover?
Wheel hubs typically fail when the bearing seats wear or a wheel stud strips or shears. Symptoms usually include play at the wheel, a droning noise that changes with speed, or a loose wheel. Running a worn hub risks bearing collapse, so it's usually replaced once the bearing seats are damaged.
