What is the ERC4480 injector leak-off pipe used for?
The ERC4480 is an injector leak-off pipe, or spill-return pipe, for the 2.25L and 2.5L naturally-aspirated diesel engines. It connects the return unions on top of the injectors and carries fuel that bleeds past each injector needle back to the return line. Fits Land Rover Defender and Series 2/3 diesel.
What are the signs a leak-off pipe needs replacing?
A failing leak-off pipe causes hard starting and rough running. The pipe perishes with age and heat, and once the connections harden or split they draw air into the injector returns. It's a cheap fuel-system part that's typically renewed whenever the injectors are removed or serviced.
