What type of fuel cap is NRC9572 and how does it attach?
It's a pressed-metal, non-locking vented fuel filler cap that locates on the filler neck with a quarter-turn bayonet action on two lugs inside the neck. The vent is a key feature: it admits air into the tank as fuel is drawn off, preventing the vacuum that would otherwise restrict fuel supply.
Why must the replacement cap be vented if the original is vented?
On tanks without a separate breather line, the cap vent is the only air path into the tank. Fitting a non-vented cap creates a vacuum in the tank as fuel is consumed, potentially starving the fuel pump and causing running problems.
Which Defender models does NRC9572 fit?
It fits the Land Rover Defender up to 2016, specifically up to VIN AA259678 (early models). Later Defenders use a different filler neck arrangement. The part carries a 2-year warranty.
