Frequently asked questions

What does the RTC6702 stop solenoid do?
The RTC6702 fuel stop solenoid sits on the injection pump of the 2.5L 200Tdi and 300Tdi diesel engine. It stays open while the ignition is on to let fuel through; switch off and it closes, cutting the fuel to stop the engine. Fitted to Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic.
What happens when the stop solenoid fails?
A failed stop solenoid usually shows up one of two ways: the engine won't start because the solenoid isn't opening to pass fuel, or the engine won't switch off when you turn the ignition off. Both are common on 200/300Tdi engines and point to the solenoid sticking or losing power.
Where is the stop solenoid fitted and is it a DIY job?
The stop solenoid screws into the top of the diesel injection pump on the 200/300Tdi engine. Replacing it is typically a straightforward job with basic spanners, taking care to catch any fuel and refit the wiring correctly. Prime the system and check for leaks before starting the engine.
