Ballast Resistor Resistor in the ignition primary circuit of the 3.5L V8 petrol engine.
Wired in series with the ignition coil, it drops the supply voltage to the coil during normal running to limit primary current. During cranking the resistor is bypassed so the coil receives full battery voltage for a stronger starting spark. Used with contact-breaker ignition systems.
