Distributor Cap - Side Entry for the ignition system of early Series I Land Rovers. The distributor cap provides connection points between the ignition coil's high-tension output and the individual spark plug leads, distributing the HT pulse to each cylinder in the correct firing order.

The side entry design accepts HT leads inserted laterally into the sides of the cap, as used on the Lucas distributor fitted to the Series I petrol engine.

Frequently asked questions

What is the side entry distributor cap used for?
The side entry distributor cap sits on the Lucas distributor and routes the ignition coil's HT output to each spark plug lead in firing order. The side entry design takes the HT leads into the sides of the cap, as fitted to early Land Rover Series petrol engines.
Which Land Rovers does this distributor cap fit?
This distributor cap fits the Land Rover Series 1 and early Series 2 petrol models running the Lucas distributor. It's the side entry pattern, so confirm your existing cap takes the leads into its sides rather than the top before ordering.
What are the signs a distributor cap needs replacing?
A failing distributor cap typically shows as misfiring, hard starting or rough running, often worse in damp weather. Cracks, carbon tracking or corroded HT terminals let the spark leak to earth. Inspect it whenever you're chasing an ignition fault on these Lucas systems.
