What does the ignition coil do?

How many ignition coils does the AJV8 use?
The AJV8 uses one coil-on-plug per cylinder, so a full set matches the number of cylinders on your engine. If one coil has failed the others are often a similar age, so many owners renew the full set on the Jaguar V8 to avoid repeat misfires.
What are the signs of a failed ignition coil?
A failing ignition coil usually causes a misfire, rough idle, a flashing engine light and a fault code for its cylinder. On the AJV8 a weak coil-on-plug often breaks down when hot, so the misfire can come and go. Swapping the suspect coil to another cylinder helps confirm it.
