Flywheel Assembly for the manual transmission on the 2.5L 200 TDi and 300 TDi turbo diesel engines.

Bolted to the rear of the crankshaft, the flywheel stores rotational inertia to smooth engine running and presents the friction face against which the clutch driven plate is clamped. Its integral toothed ring gear engages the starter motor pinion for cranking.

Frequently asked questions

What does the flywheel assembly do?
The flywheel assembly bolts to the rear of the crankshaft on the 2.5L 200 TDi and 300 TDi engines. It stores rotational inertia to smooth engine running, presents the friction face for the clutch, and its ring gear engages the starter motor pinion.
Which models does this flywheel fit?
This flywheel fits the Defender, Discovery 1 (1989-1998) and Range Rover Classic with the 2.5L 200 TDi or 300 TDi and 5-speed manual. VIN ranges apply: Discovery 1 FA393361 to WA799999, Range Rover Classic from JA610294, so check your VIN.
Is there an alternative part number for this flywheel?
Yes, this flywheel cross-references to ERR4908. Both cover the 2.5L 200/300 TDi manual application, so confirm your engine and gearbox match that specification before ordering to make sure the friction face and ring gear are correct for your clutch.
When should the flywheel be replaced?
The flywheel is typically inspected during a clutch change and replaced or refaced if the friction surface is scored, heat-cracked or the ring gear teeth are worn. Renewing it with the clutch avoids a repeat gearbox-out job, so it's often done together.
