Brand Garrett
Turbocharger - 200 TDi - the exhaust-driven turbocharger for the 2.5L 200 TDi turbo diesel, mounted on the exhaust manifold as part of the forced-induction system.

Exhaust gas spins the turbine wheel, which drives the compressor to pressurise the inlet air; the compressed charge then passes through the intercooler to the inlet manifold, raising power and efficiency over a naturally aspirated engine. The bearing housing is lubricated and cooled by oil feed and return lines from the engine.

Frequently asked questions

What is the ETC7461 turbocharger and what does it do?
The ETC7461 is the OEM Garrett turbocharger for the 2.5L 200 TDi turbo diesel, mounted on the exhaust manifold. Exhaust gas spins the turbine, which drives the compressor to pressurise inlet air; the charge then passes through the intercooler to the inlet manifold, raising power over a naturally aspirated engine.
Which vehicles does this 200 TDi turbocharger fit?
This ETC7461 turbo fits the Land Rover Discovery 1 (1989-1998) 200 TDi, VIN FA393361 to WA799999, and the Range Rover Classic (1992-1994) 200 TDi, from VIN JA610294. It's specific to the 200 TDi, not the later 300 TDi, so confirm your engine and VIN.
What are the signs a 200 TDi turbocharger is failing?
A failing 200 TDi turbocharger typically shows as blue or black smoke, whining or whistling noise, oil leaks from the bearing housing, and loss of boost or power. Worn centre bearings or shaft play usually cause oil consumption, and oil starvation from blocked feed lines is a common cause.
What should I check when fitting a 200 TDi turbocharger?
When fitting the ETC7461, the oil feed and return lines that lubricate and cool the bearing housing should typically be cleaned or renewed. Priming the turbo with oil before starting usually helps prevent early bearing damage. This is normally a specialist or experienced DIY job.
