Frequently asked questions

What is the gearbox extension case screw used for?
The gearbox extension case screw secures the extension case to the rear of the manual gearbox casing. The extension case houses the rear output shaft and oil seal. It's used on the LT77 and R380 5-speed manual gearboxes across the Land Rover range.
How many extension case screws do I need?
You typically need a small set to secure the extension case, so it's worth checking how many your gearbox uses before ordering. Many builders renew all of them when the extension case is removed, since they're cheap and reusing corroded fasteners risks stripped threads.
Which gearboxes and models use this screw?
This extension case screw fits the LT77 and R380 manual gearboxes, covering the Defender (1987-2006), Discovery 1, Discovery 2, Range Rover Classic (1992-1994 from VIN JA610294) and Range Rover P38. Confirm your gearbox type before ordering, as casing fasteners vary between units.
