Frequently asked questions

What does the V8 drive plate do?
The V8 drive plate, or flexplate, couples the V8 petrol engine crankshaft to the automatic transmission torque converter. It bolts to the rear of the crankshaft, carries the starter ring gear around its edge, and the torque converter mounts to its face to transmit engine torque into the gearbox.
Which V8 models does this drive plate fit?
This drive plate fits V8 petrol automatics including the Defender 4.0 V8 EFI, Discovery 1, Discovery 2, Range Rover Classic and Range Rover P38 (4.0 and 4.6 V8). The Discovery 1 application covers North American V8 autos up to VIN TA163100, so confirm your build.
What are the signs a drive plate needs replacing?
A failing drive plate typically shows up as a rattle or knock from the bellhousing, or difficulty starting if the ring gear teeth are worn or cracked. Cracks usually start around the bolt holes. Replacing it during a gearbox or torque converter job avoids a repeat strip-down.
