Hydraulic Tappet fitted within the V8 petrol engine valve train, where it maintains zero valve clearance automatically.

Engine oil pressure fills the tappet's internal chamber to take up the slack created by thermal expansion and component wear, giving consistent rocker gear operation and stable valve timing without periodic manual adjustment.

It acts on the pushrod in the overhead-valve rocker shaft assembly. Tappets are normally renewed as a full set when the valve gear is overhauled.
