Clutch Slave Cylinder for the hydraulic clutch release system on Defender and Discovery 2 models fitted with the R380 manual gearbox.

Mounted on the gearbox bellhousing, this cylinder receives hydraulic pressure from the clutch master cylinder and converts it into linear movement. That movement actuates the clutch release fork, disengaging the driven plate from the flywheel when the clutch pedal is depressed.

Frequently asked questions

What does the FTC5202 clutch slave cylinder do?
The FTC5202 clutch slave cylinder mounts on the R380 gearbox bellhousing and converts hydraulic pressure from the clutch master cylinder into movement that pushes the release fork. That disengages the clutch when you press the pedal. This is the Genuine Land Rover slave cylinder for the R380 manual gearbox.
What are the signs of a failing clutch slave cylinder?
A failing clutch slave cylinder typically leaks hydraulic fluid, gives a spongy or sinking clutch pedal, or stops the clutch disengaging so gears are hard to select. Check for fluid weeping at the cylinder. Once it leaks internally or externally it needs replacing.
Does the clutch system need bleeding after fitting this?
Yes, the clutch hydraulic system needs bleeding after fitting a new slave cylinder to remove trapped air, otherwise the clutch won't release properly. Most competent DIY mechanics can manage it, though access on the bellhousing can be tight. Use fresh fluid to the workshop manual specification.
Which models and gearboxes does this slave cylinder fit?
This slave cylinder fits the Land Rover Defender (1986-2006, 300Tdi and Td5) and Discovery 2 (1998-2004), both with the R380 manual gearbox. It's specific to the R380, so confirm your vehicle has that gearbox rather than the earlier LT77 or an automatic before ordering.
