Brand AP Driveline
Clutch Slave Cylinder for the hydraulic clutch release system on Defender and Discovery 2 models fitted with the R380 manual gearbox.

Mounted on the gearbox bellhousing, this cylinder receives hydraulic pressure from the clutch master cylinder and converts it into linear movement. That movement actuates the clutch release fork, disengaging the driven plate from the flywheel when the clutch pedal is depressed.

Frequently asked questions

What is the FTC5202 clutch slave cylinder and where is it fitted?
FTC5202 is an OEM AP Driveline external clutch slave cylinder mounted on the R380 gearbox bellhousing. It receives hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder and converts it to linear movement that actuates the clutch release fork. It fits Defender 300Tdi and Td5, and Discovery 2 with R380 manual gearbox.
What are the symptoms of a failing clutch slave cylinder on these models?
Common symptoms include a clutch pedal that sinks under sustained pressure, incomplete clutch disengagement (difficulty engaging gears), or a visible hydraulic fluid leak at the bellhousing. On Defender 300Tdi and Td5, a failing slave cylinder often shows pedal pressure loss that worsens under repeated use.
Should the master cylinder be replaced at the same time?
If the slave cylinder has failed from internal bore wear or seal collapse, it's good practice to replace the master cylinder at the same time. Both units share the same hydraulic fluid circuit and typically age together. If the failure is mechanical (cracked body or split hose), replacing the slave alone is usually sufficient.
