What is the LR032576 CV boot kit used for?

LR032576 is the outer CV joint boot kit for the front axle driveshaft on the Range Rover L322 2002 to 2012. The boot is the flexible gaiter that seals the outboard constant velocity joint, holding the joint grease in and keeping water and grit out.

How many kits are needed?

One kit covers one outer CV joint. The L322 has an outer joint on each front driveshaft, so two kits are needed to do both sides. Boots are typically renewed in pairs when the driveshafts are out, since the second one is usually not far behind.

Why do CV boots fail on the L322?

CV boots fail because the rubber perishes with age, heat and road salt, then splits at the concertina folds. Once split, grease is flung out and grit gets into the joint. The usual warning sign is a clicking noise from the front on full lock.

How do I know whether I need the outer or inner boot kit?

LR032576 is the outer boot kit, which fits the joint at the wheel end of the front driveshaft. The inner joint at the differential end takes a different kit. Clicking on full lock usually points to the outer joint, while vibration under acceleration points to the inner.

Can the boot be replaced without removing the driveshaft?

Replacing the outer CV boot on the L322 normally means removing the driveshaft, or at least separating the outer joint, because the boot has to pass over the joint. Split boots that wrap on without dismantling exist, but they are a temporary fix rather than a proper repair.
