Oil Cooler Return Pipe for the engine oil cooling system of the Defender, carrying cooled oil from the oil cooler back to the engine.

This pipe is the return leg of the early oil cooler circuit, fitted to 90" and 110" models with the 2.5-litre Turbo Diesel (non-TDi) and 4-cylinder petrol and naturally-aspirated diesel engines. It uses an imperial conical compression fitting, not interchangeable with the later metric o-ring type fittings.

The companion oil cooler feed pipe is NTC2927.

Frequently asked questions

What is the NTC2928 oil cooler return pipe for?
The NTC2928 return pipe carries cooled oil from the oil cooler back to the engine on the Land Rover Defender with the 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine. It's the return leg of the early oil cooler circuit, fitted between VIN FA389799 and LA939975.
What's the difference between this early return pipe and the later type?
The NTC2928 uses an imperial conical compression fitting, which doesn't interchange with the later metric o-ring pipes fitted to Tdi-onwards models. Check your fitting type and VIN (FA389799 to LA939975) before ordering, since the two systems don't mix.
Should I replace the feed pipe at the same time?
The companion feed pipe is NTC2927, which supplies oil from the engine to the cooler. When one pipe corrodes or leaks it's usually worth renewing both together, as they share the same age, routing, and imperial compression fittings on the 2.5 four-cylinder Defender.
Why do these return pipes fail?
Oil cooler return pipes typically fail through corrosion, chafing against surrounding components, or a seeping compression union. On the early 2.5 four-cylinder Defender circuit, a weep at the imperial fitting or a rusted pipe body is the usual reason for replacement.
