Frequently asked questions

What is this recovery strap used for?
This is an 8 metre flat webbing recovery strap used to pull a stuck or immobilised vehicle clear. One end connects to the recovery vehicle and the other to the casualty, so the pull is taken through webbing rather than a chain or steel rope.
What does the 3-ton rating actually mean?
The 3 tonne figure is the working load limit. The stated breaking strength is 21 tonnes, giving a safety factor of 7 to 1. The working load limit, not the breaking strength, is the figure to work to when matching the strap to a vehicle.
Where should the strap be attached to the vehicle?
Attach only to a rated recovery point matched to the strap's 3 tonne working load limit. Tie down eyes, body panels and tow balls aren't recovery points. A strap under load that lets go carries the attached hardware with it.
When should a recovery strap be taken out of service?
Retire the strap if the webbing is cut, frayed through, heat glazed or badly stained by chemicals, and after any recovery where it was snatched or shock loaded. Webbing damage isn't always obvious, so inspect the full 8 metre length before each use.
