Gearchange Roll Pin - a tension (roll) pin used in the manual gearchange mechanism to secure the gear lever to the selector shaft.

Applies to the LT77 and R380 manual gearboxes. The pin is a friction-fit fastener that retains the lever against the shaft while allowing the shear and vibration loads of gear selection; it is renewed whenever the lever is separated from the shaft.

Frequently asked questions

What does the PA120801L gearchange roll pin do?
The PA120801L is a tension (roll) pin that secures the gear lever to the selector shaft in the manual gearchange. It's a friction-fit fastener that holds the lever on the shaft while taking the shear and vibration loads of changing gear. It's used on the LT77 and R380 manual gearboxes.
Should the roll pin be replaced when refitting the gear lever?
Yes, renew the gearchange roll pin whenever the gear lever is separated from the selector shaft. Driving an old roll pin back in typically leaves it a loose fit, which can let the lever work free. It's a low-cost part, so fit a new one on reassembly.
Which gearbox and model does this roll pin fit?
This gearchange roll pin fits the Defender built 1987 to 2006, covering the LT77 gearbox (pre-1994, up to VIN LA939975) and the later R380 gearbox. Check which gearbox your vehicle has, though the gearchange roll pin is common to both.
