Genuine Part
Genuine: Original manufacturer part. This product is the original part designed and produced by the vehicle manufacturer.
Thermostat - the coolant-flow control valve in the engine cooling system, with an 82°C opening temperature.

Mounted in the thermostat housing at the coolant outlet on the cylinder head, it stays closed while the engine warms from cold so coolant circulates only within the block, then opens progressively from 82°C to route coolant through the radiator and hold the engine at its intended operating temperature. Suits both petrol and diesel applications.

Frequently asked questions

What temperature does the 596225 thermostat open at?
The 596225 thermostat opens at 82C, controlling coolant flow in the engine cooling system. It stays closed while the engine warms from cold, then opens progressively from 82C to route coolant through the radiator once the engine reaches operating temperature.
Which engines does this thermostat fit?
This thermostat fits the 2.25 litre petrol engine in Series 2 and 2A models, and both the 2.25 litre petrol and 2.25 litre diesel engines in Series 3. It suits both fuel types on these engines.
Where is the thermostat located on the engine?
It's mounted in the thermostat housing at the coolant outlet on the cylinder head, sitting directly in the coolant flow path between the engine and radiator.
Why would this thermostat need replacing?
Thermostats typically fail either stuck closed, causing overheating, or stuck open, causing the engine to run cold and take longer to reach operating temperature. A temperature gauge that climbs too high or never reaches normal running temp usually points to this part.
