Frequently asked questions

What does the Thermostat Gasket (527110) seal on the 2.25 petrol engine?
The thermostat gasket (527110) seals the mating face between the thermostat housing and the cylinder head on the Series 2/3 2.25L petrol engine. It prevents coolant leaks at the housing joint and should be replaced whenever the thermostat housing is removed.
Which Series 2/3 engine variants does this gasket fit?
This gasket (527110) fits the 2.25L petrol engine on Series 3 with the 3-bearing crankshaft, and Series 2 vehicles from engine suffix D onwards. It's not correct for Series 2 engines before suffix D.
Should this gasket be replaced every time the thermostat is removed?
Yes. The thermostat gasket (527110) should be replaced every time the housing is opened. Paper gaskets compress on first use and won't seal reliably if refitted. Cross-references include BR 1248 and GTG119.
