What does the conrod bolt do?

The conrod bolt secures the connecting rod cap to the connecting rod, clamping the big-end bearing around the crankshaft journal. It's a critical bottom-end fastener that holds the rod assembly together under the full load of combustion. Used on the four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines.

Can conrod bolts be reused?

Conrod bolts are best renewed during an engine rebuild rather than reused. They're highly stressed clamping fasteners, and fitting fresh bolts is standard practice when the big-ends are opened up. Torque them to the workshop manual specification on assembly. Replacing the full set keeps clamping load consistent.

Which engines does this conrod bolt fit?

This conrod bolt fits Defender 2.25L petrol, 2.25L diesel, 2.5L petrol, 2.5L naturally-aspirated diesel and 2.5L turbo diesel engines up to engine number 19J23245, and Series II, IIA and III 2.25L petrol and diesel. It's not suitable for TDi engines. Confirm your engine number before ordering.
