Frequently asked questions

What is the 515470 locking plate used for?

It's a locking plate fitted to secure a nut or bolt on the LT76 gearbox or LT230 transfer case, stopping it working loose under vibration. It's a simple mechanical lock washer style part rather than an electronic or hydraulic component.

Can this locking plate be reused, or does it need replacing every time?

These are typically single-use. Once a locking plate has been bent over to lock a fastener in place, straightening and reusing it weakens the metal and risks it not locking properly, so it should be replaced as standard whenever the fastener is undone.

Which Land Rover models and gearboxes does this fit?

It's confirmed for the Series I, Series II and III, and Defender on the LT76 gearbox, plus the Defender, Discovery 1, and Range Rover Classic on the LT230 transfer case. Confirm which unit, LT76 or LT230, your vehicle has before ordering since the locking point differs.

Does this fit the Range Rover P38?

No, current sourcing doesn't confirm this locking plate for the Range Rover P38 (1994-2001), only the earlier Range Rover Classic. If you're working on a P38, check the correct part for that generation's transfer case rather than assuming this one carries over.
