Handrempakking voor de transmissiehandrem (parkeerrem), die het modderschild (olieopvangbak) afdicht tegen de remankerplaat.

Het voorkomt dat wegvuil en water zich ophopen achter de ankerplaat en de olieaftap van de uitgaande flens blokkeren. Een geblokkeerde aftap dwingt lekkende olie via de trommel naar buiten en op de remschoenen, waardoor de voeringen verontreinigd raken en de prestaties van de handrem verminderen. De pakking wordt normaal gesproken vernieuwd wanneer de handremtrommel wordt verwijderd of tijdens vervanging van de oliekeerring van de achterste uitgaande as.

What does the Handbrake Gasket do?

The Handbrake Gasket seals the mud shield, or oil catcher, against the transmission handbrake back plate. It keeps road dirt and water from collecting behind the back plate and blocking the output-flange oil drain, which protects the brake shoes from oil contamination. Fits Land Rover Series 3 and Defender transmission handbrake.

When should the handbrake gasket be replaced?

Replace the handbrake gasket whenever the handbrake drum is removed or during rear output shaft oil seal replacement. It's normally renewed each time rather than reused, so fitting a fresh one keeps the oil drain clear and stops oil reaching the brake shoes.

What happens if the handbrake gasket fails?

A failed handbrake gasket lets dirt block the output-flange oil drain, which forces leaking oil out through the drum and onto the handbrake shoes. Contaminated linings reduce handbrake holding power. Signs include oil at the drum and a transmission handbrake that won't hold on these Series 3 and Defender models.
