Oliepomptandwiel voor de 3.5L V8 motoroliepomp, onderdeel van het smeersysteem.

De oliepomp zuigt olie aan uit het carter en brengt deze onder druk om door de oliekanalen van de motor te worden geleid. De tandwielen van de pomp grijpen in elkaar om deze stroom en druk te genereren. Versleten tandwielen verminderen de oliedruk en moeten worden vervangen bij revisie van de oliepomp.

What is the V8 Oil Pump Gear used for?

The Oil Pump Gear is a replacement gear for the 3.5 V8 engine oil pump, part of the lubrication system. The pump gears mesh to draw oil from the sump and pressurise it through the engine oil galleries. Worn gears lose pressure, so they're renewed when overhauling the V8 oil pump.

Should I replace the oil pump gears as a set?

Oil pump gears are typically replaced together when overhauling the pump, so check whether your rebuild needs the mating gear as well. Renewing worn gears restores oil pressure. Inspect the pump body and cover for scoring at the same time, since wear there also drops oil pressure.

What happens if worn oil pump gears aren't replaced?

Worn oil pump gears cause low oil pressure, which on the 3.5 V8 shows as a low gauge reading, warning light or noise. Low pressure starves the bearings of oil and risks serious engine damage, so renew worn gears during an oil pump overhaul.
