Frequently asked questions

What does the speedometer cable plate screw do?
The speedometer cable plate screw clamps the retaining plate that holds the speedometer drive cable into the gearbox drive housing. It stops the cable end working loose on the Land Rover Series 1, Series 2 and 3 and early Defender.
Where does this screw fit?
This screw fits at the speedometer drive on the gearbox, holding the cable retaining plate against the speedo drive housing. On the Defender it's specific to the LT76 gearbox up to 1983, so confirm your gearbox type before ordering.
How many screws are needed?
Usually one screw secures the speedometer cable retaining plate, though some setups use two. Count the fixings on your speedo drive plate before ordering, as the Series and early Defender gearboxes can differ.
