The upper swivel pin bush locates the top swivel pin in the front axle swivel housing, letting the housing pivot through the steering angle. It works with the lower swivel bearing to carry the steering swivel on the axle. Fitted to the Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic front axle.

How many upper swivel pin bushes do I need?

You typically need one upper swivel pin bush per side, so two for a full front axle overhaul. Most workshops replace both sides together along with the lower swivel components, since the swivel housing has to come apart to reach either side.

What are the signs the upper swivel pin bush needs replacing?

A worn upper swivel pin bush usually shows up as steering play, knocking from the front hubs, or stiff, notchy steering. Left unchecked it accelerates swivel pin wear. It's typically renewed during a swivel housing overhaul on higher-mileage Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic axles.
