What is the FTC4458 circlip used for?

The FTC4458 is an external circlip that retains the selector yoke inside the R380 manual gearbox. It sits in a machined groove on the yoke and locks it against axial movement in the gear selector mechanism.

Is this an internal or external circlip?

It's an external circlip, so it clips around the outside of a groove on the R380 selector yoke rather than inside a bore. Internal and external circlips aren't interchangeable, so check the application before ordering.
