Frequently asked questions

What is the Depression Control Valve used for?
The Depression Control Valve regulates the crankcase depression (vacuum) on the diesel engine, controlling pressure in the crankcase ventilation system. It's mounted on the camshaft or cylinder head cover. It fits the Freelander 1 Td4 2.0L M47 diesel and the Range Rover L322 3.0L M57 diesel.
Where does this valve sit on the engine?
This valve sits on top of the engine on the camshaft cover, as part of the crankcase breather system, keeping internal pressure controlled as the engine runs. On the Freelander 1 M47 and L322 M57 diesels it's part of the crankcase ventilation, not the fuel system.
Does this valve have alternative part numbers?
This valve cross-references to several numbers, including STC4733, 8510224 and 4H422B382BA. If any of those appear on your old valve or in a catalogue, they point to the same crankcase depression control valve for the M47 and M57 diesel engines.
