Frequently asked questions

What is the ERR560 lock nut used for?
The ERR560 lock nut secures the tappet adjuster screw on the rocker shaft, holding the valve clearance once it's been set. It's tightened against the rocker arm to lock the adjusting screw so it can't back off in service. Thread size is M8 x 1.0.
How many lock nuts do I need for a valve clearance adjustment?
You'll typically need one lock nut per valve. The 200 TDi and 300 TDi four-cylinder diesels have eight valves, so a full rocker shaft refresh usually takes eight. Order to match the number of adjusters you're disturbing.
Should the lock nut be reused or replaced?
These lock nuts are typically best replaced once disturbed, as the locking feature can weaken with reuse. A nut that no longer holds can let valve clearance drift, causing tappet noise or poor running. Fitting fresh nuts when setting clearances on the 200 and 300 TDi is cheap insurance.
