Frequently asked questions

What is the Engine Push Rod (546799) used for?
The Engine Push Rod transmits motion from the camshaft, via the cam follower, to the rocker arm, which opens the valve. It's a straight, single-piece overhead-valve actuation rod for the valve train of Land Rover diesel engines.
Which engines does this diesel push rod fit?
This diesel push rod fits the 2.5 naturally aspirated and turbo diesel, 200 TDi and 300 TDi engines. It's used on the Land Rover Defender 1987-2006, Discovery 1 and the 1992-1994 Range Rover Classic, plus Series 2 and 2A diesels.
Is this sold as one push rod or a set?
Supplied as a single rod. An overhead-valve diesel engine uses a push rod for each valve it operates, so a full valve train typically needs several. Order the quantity your engine requires.
Why might a diesel push rod need replacing?
A push rod typically bends if a valve sticks or the engine is over-revved, which shows up as valve train noise or a misfire. A bent rod can't open its valve fully, so it's renewed to restore correct valve operation.
