Rocker Cover Gasket - Diesel for the 2.25L and 2.5L 4-Cylinder diesel engine.

This gasket seals the joint between the rocker cover and the cylinder head, preventing oil from escaping the valve gear area. It is replaced when the rocker cover is removed for valve adjustment or when the existing gasket has hardened, shrunk, or cracked and is allowing oil to seep from the cover perimeter. A correct seal at this joint is essential to prevent oil contamination of surrounding exhaust components.

Frequently asked questions

What is the ETC6438 rocker cover gasket used for?
The ETC6438 is the rocker cover gasket for the diesel engine. It seals the joint between the rocker (valve) cover and the cylinder head, keeping engine oil in and contaminants out at the top of the engine. It fits the 2.25L and 2.5L 4-cylinder diesel engines.
Should the rocker cover gasket be replaced when removing the cover?
Replace the rocker cover gasket whenever the cover is removed. Old gaskets harden and won't reseal, causing oil weeps down the side of the engine. Fitting a new ETC6438 each time avoids a repeat leak.
Why does a rocker cover gasket leak?
Rocker cover gaskets leak as the material hardens, shrinks, and cracks with heat and age. The usual sign is oil seeping from the top edge of the engine and collecting on the head or block. Renewing the gasket stops the leak.
Which engines does the ETC6438 fit?
The ETC6438 fits the 2.25L and 2.5L 4-cylinder diesel engines in Series II/IIA/III and Defender 1987-2006 (naturally aspirated and turbo diesel, pre-200TDi). Confirm your engine is pre-200TDi, as later TDi engines use a different gasket.
