Frequently asked questions

What is the ETC8191 con rod nut for?
The ETC8191 is the connecting rod nut for the big-end of the 2.5L four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines. It secures the big-end bearing cap to the connecting rod, clamping the cap around the crankshaft journal. It's also supplied within engine overhaul kits.
Should con rod nuts be reused or replaced?
Replace the ETC8191 con rod nuts with new ones during any engine rebuild. Big-end nuts are highly stressed and typically treated as single-use, since a reused nut can lose clamping load and let the bearing cap work loose. Fit new nuts as standard.
How many ETC8191 nuts does an engine rebuild need?
The 2.5L four-cylinder engine has four connecting rods, each big-end cap secured by two nuts, so a full rebuild typically needs eight ETC8191 nuts. The nut is sold individually and also comes in overhaul kits, so check your kit contents before ordering extras.
