Front Brake Disc Shield - Defender

This pressed-steel shield fits behind the front brake disc on the Defender, located between the disc and the swivel housing. Its function is to deflect road debris, mud, and water away from the disc and pad faces, helping to maintain consistent braking performance and protect the disc from accelerated corrosion.

The shield is secured to the axle swivel housing and does not contact the disc in normal operation. It is typically renewed when corroded or damaged, or during a front brake overhaul.

Frequently asked questions

What does the FRC6403 brake disc shield do?
The FRC6403 brake disc shield is the front splash shield that sits between the brake disc and the swivel housing on the Land Rover Defender. It deflects mud, water, and road debris away from the disc and pad faces and does not contact the disc in normal use.
Which side of the vehicle does this shield fit?
This shield fits the front left-hand side. It bolts to the axle swivel housing behind the brake disc on the Defender. Each front corner uses its own shield, so the right-hand side takes a separate part.
When should the disc shield be replaced?
Replace the disc shield when it's corroded, split, or bent from debris contact. It's typically renewed during a front brake overhaul on the Defender. A corroded or bent shield can foul the disc, so it's worth checking whenever the front brakes are stripped.
